MAPROTEC
MAPROTEC - Manufacturing and Process Technology is a research group within the Doctoral Programme in Mechanical Engineering at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, operating as part of an integrated academic pathway that connects Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral studies. Led by Prof. Dr. Agus Dwi Anggono, the group focuses on advancing manufacturing and process technologies through both experimental and computational approaches. Its research areas include springback and kinematic simulation, microchannel cooling systems, sheet metal forming and additive manufacturing, fatigue in solder joints and surface engineering, fracture and nonlinear mechanics, as well as computational mechanics, structural optimisation, and packaging. By fostering collaboration across academic levels, MAPROTECH not only produces internationally recognized research but also cultivates a continuous flow of knowledge and innovation that strengthens both the curriculum and the industrial relevance of UMS’s engineering programmes.
ASER
ASER - Advanced Sustainable Energy Research is a research group within the Doctoral Programme in Mechanical Engineering at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, integrated with the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes to create a continuous research and learning pathway. Led by Prof. Dr. Marwan Effendy, ASER focuses on developing innovative and sustainable energy solutions, including renewable energy derived from solid/liquid waste and biomass, electric vehicles and solar power technologies, emission and waste management strategies, advanced energy storage systems (particularly hybrid configurations), as well as heat and mass transfer studies. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and shared facilities across academic levels, ASER not only advances cutting-edge research but also nurtures future engineers capable of addressing global energy and environmental challenges.
AMAS
AMAS - Advanced Materials and Structures is a research group within the Doctoral Programme in Mechanical Engineering at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, integrated with the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes to create a unified research and learning environment. Coordinated by Prof. Dr. Tri Widodo Besar Riyadi, AMAS focuses on the development and application of advanced materials and structural technologies. Its research covers high-temperature and bullet-resistant materials, FRP composites and nanomaterials, thermoelectric materials and combustion synthesis, structural health monitoring for vehicles, and cutting-edge nanomaterial also metamaterial innovations. By combining experimental studies with advanced modelling, and fostering collaboration across academic levels, AMAS not only drives breakthroughs in material science and structural engineering but also equips students with the expertise to address complex challenges in defense, transportation, and sustainable technology.
AVEC
AVEC - Advanced Vehicle Control and Automation is a research group within the Doctoral Programme in Mechanical Engineering at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, working in full integration with the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes to create a continuous and collaborative research environment. Led by Prof. Dr. Supriyono, AVEC focuses on cutting-edge developments in robotics and vehicle automation, dynamic control systems for electric vehicles (both PHEV and BEV), Arduino-based electronic control units (ECUs), and advanced fault-tolerant control and estimation algorithms. By combining theoretical modelling, experimental prototyping, and real-world testing, the group drives innovation in intelligent transportation systems while equipping students at all academic levels with the skills and experience to contribute to the future of smart, efficient, and reliable vehicle technologies.
FAERO
FAERO – Fluid and Aerodynamics Research is a research group within the Doctoral Programme in Mechanical Engineering at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, fully integrated with the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes to create a continuous and collaborative research environment. Led by Prof. Dr. Sarjito, FAERO focuses on advancing knowledge and technology in fluid dynamics and aerodynamics, with research areas including aerodynamic design for vehicles and high-speed trains, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and wind engineering, as well as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and fluid flow visualization. By combining theoretical modelling, simulation, and experimental testing, the group develops innovative solutions for transportation efficiency, environmental sustainability, and engineering performance, while providing students at all academic levels with hands-on experience in cutting-edge aerodynamic research.
